The Nicene Creed

"We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one being with the Father........"

These words many of us have confessed many times. But there was a time when these words and these creeds did not exist. They had to be ironed out. The process was messy and hard, but it was important for the unity of the church.

Today we were standing on the spot where in 325 AD, they hammered out these words. This is the spot ....

There was a very nice palace or home here. It was here that the Emporer Constantine called the bishops of the church to hammer out the details. It was then the town of Nicea. It is now called Iznik.

We recited together the Nicene Creed on this spot ... Very cool!

Here in the Lake water you can see the former foundation of the building.

Lunch today was a wonderful buffet of Turkish food.

We took a ferry over and back to where we started 2 and a half weeks ago in Istanbul. Karen is wearing one of the 300 scarfs she has purchased. (slight exaggeration.)

On this whole trip our wonderful guide Halik has been on the bus microphone telling us about the sites and the customs of Turkey. He has taken care of every detail beautifully, making this trip easy for us. We have grown to care for him very much!

We visited the Grand Bizarre in Istanbul before going to our hotel for the night. The first indoor mall!

Tomorrow we fly to Rome and we will be on our own, no Halit! That is a little freighting but the Lord will be with us!
